Flagler College welcomes award-winning producer

Flagler College on Friday gave a reception for producer Helen Whitney, who is midway through a lecture series called “Spiritual Landscapes: A Life in Film.”
Faculty and staff met with Whitney at the college’s Crisp-Ellert Art Museum. Her lectures continue next week with “Faith and Doubt” on Nov. 13 and “A Time to Love and a Time to Hate” on Nov. 14.
All of the lectures, which are free and open to the public, begin at 7 p.m. at Flagler College’s Lewis Auditorium at 14 Granada St.
Whitney has worked as a producer, director and writer for documentaries and feature films since 1971. Her subjects have ranged from youth gangs and presidential candidates to homosexuals and the mentally ill.
According to her biography, her work has appeared on Frontline, PBS’s American Masters and ABC’s “Closeup.” Her honors include an Emmy Award, a Peabody Award, an Oscar nomination, the Humanitas Award and the duPont-Columbia Journalism Award.
Whitney is speaking at Flagler College as part of the Ideas and Images Visiting Scholars and Artists Program.
