And the winners are…


Dr. Helena Särkiö, an associate professor at Flagler College, congratulates Tiffanie Reynolds, winner of the Gargoyle’s top prize for her story about war veterans who are now students, some of whom struggle to adjust to life on campus.

The Gargoyle, the newspaper at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla., honored students Wednesday night for journalism, photography, multimedia and public relations work.
The students’ winning entries appear in the latest edition of Anthology, a Gargoyle publication.
I shot these at the event, held at the Markland House, a historic mansion that is on campus. See more photos here.


Brian Thompson, Gargoyle adviser and director of news and information at the college, presented the awards.


Dr. Helena Särkiö, who teaches journalism and other classes, coached many of the contest winners.


Lois Goh won honorable mention for her public relations work.


Sarah Williamson was honored for her writing and also won the gold award in photography for her photo essay of an immigrant family.


Laura Modrall won the top public relations prize.


Victoria Hardina won the gold award in photography for an artful photo illustration called, “Just a Dream.”


Ashley Goodman won the silver award in photography for her photos of a Florida drag queen.
