This bug’s singing days may be over

Six-legged cicadas are capable of producing sounds measuring more than 100 decibels. That’s as loud as some motorcycles, snowmobiles or buzz saws, but not as deafening as a rock concert, according to this decibel chart.
The males make noise to attract females. No other bug makes a louder love song. Wikipedia says:

Many people around the world regularly eat cicadas. They are known to have been eaten in Ancient Greece as well as China, Malaysia, Burma, Latin America, and the Congo. Female cicadas are prized for being meatier.

Yummy.
I came across this cicada today while walking from the parking lot to my office at Flagler College. This bug was hobbling along, obviously not having a good day. The reason:
The little guy – or gal? – is missing one of his front legs.
